Today, right after the lunch get together organized by my aunt, Nini Siquijor Ramos, at her place in White Plains, my family and I went to mass at Christ the King Parish in Greenmeadows.
Msgr. Jaime Mora, the mass celebrant, explained that today-- the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God-- and tomorrow, the Feast of Epiphany, are 2 consecutive days of obligation, but going to mass today would satisfy both obligations. He reminded though that the faithful may still go to mass tomorrow.
I decided to blog about the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God not only because of the Solemnity today but also because of two very recent "triggers." Yesterday, I saw the facebook post by Eugene Dy, a colleague from the Pasay-Makati Realtors Board. Eugene posted a link to "Eclipse of Reason," a documentary by Dr. Nathan Nathanson on abortion. The graphic nature of the film surprised and moved me. Then today, during the get together at my Auntie Nini's place, my wife Maita found and showed me a parish bulletin from Christ the King Parish. One of the write-ups in the bulletin was an appeal for support for House Bill No. 13 or "Act Providing For the Safety & Protection of the Unborn Child & for Other Purposes” by Congressman Roilo Golez. To me, one way of supporting HB No. 13 is to publicize it. Also, in that parish bulletin, I learned that the same Dr. Nathanson who was featured in the "Eclipse of Reason," -- after years of performing thousands of abortions-- converted in 1996 to Catholicism.
The Blessed Virgin Mary is the Queen of Heaven and Earth, she is the mother of all, even of the unborn children. In view of the so-called "Reproductive Health Bill," and the activities of the Center for Reproductive Rights in the Philippines, I believe that I can not simply sit idly by.

Have a meaningful and memorable New Year.
