The film clip showed Lea singing John Lennon's classic "Imagine." The video commentator said that the song was appropriate for the occasion.
To me, "Imagine" could also be the song of the Anti-RH Bill group. Why? Here are the lyrics of the song [| From: http://www.elyrics.net/read/j/john-lennon-lyrics/imagine-lyrics.html |]:
Imagine there's no heaven, it's easy if you tryI believe that the Philippines is lagging behind its neighbors in terms of economic progress NOT because our country is overpopulated. There are prosperous countries in Asia that have population density per square kilometer greater than that of the Philippines. Please click here for details.
No people below us, above it's only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today
Imagine there's no countries, it isn't hard to do
No need to kill or die for and no religions too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace
You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one
Imagine no possessions I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger a brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing for the world
You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one
You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
Take my hand and join us
And the world will live, will live as one
(Note: it was argued by an RH Bill proponent during the recent ABS CBN episode of "Harapan" program that the entire geographic area of the Philippines should not be used in computing population density. That RH Bill proponent did not specify how many net square kilometers should be used. But just for discussion's sake, if one were to use just one- half of the Philippines' total estimated land area-- assuming that only one-half of the Philippines were realistically usable and habitable-- our population density would be less than 600 per square kilometer. That would still be lower than that of wealthy Taiwan.)
I believe that one major reason why we are economically behind as as a nation is because of corruption and the culture wherein it is deeply embedded. Corruption-- same with poverty-- can not be solved by passing a bill that will make sex education mandatory to all school children aged 10 and above. Corruption can not be solved by making contraceptives readily available-- using taxpayers' money-- to any consenting individuals.
President Noynoy Aquino got it right when he rallied people during his election campaign with "Kung walang corrupt, walang mahirap!" (No corruption, no poverty!)
Back to the lyrics of "Imagine"...
Imagine no possessions I wonder if you canReplace the word "possessions" with "corruption." To me, the song would remain true to its meaning.
No need for greed or hunger a brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing for the world
