A Seminary Named After St. Joseph the Worker

Shortly after I posted in my blog   about Bishop Chito G. Tagle, DD, STD,   I remembered  that  today is Labor Day.

San Jose Seminary in Quezon City.  Source
The patron saint of workers  is St. Joseph-- carpenter,  head of the Holy Family and the guardian of the Redeemer. His  feast days are  March 19 (as patron of the Catholic Church)  and   May 1 (as patron of workers).

In Manila, one of the major seminaries is  San Jose-- named after St. Joseph the Worker.  Situated within the campus of Ateneo de Manila, it is the alma mater of several archbishops, bishops-- like  Bishop Chito G. Tagle-- and  priests  from all around the  Philippines.

The current  rector of San Jose Seminary is Fr Silvino "Jun-jun" L.  Borres, S.J.  Recently  he issued a an urgent message. He is appealing to generous individuals to support the seminary, which is now facing financial difficulties.

Please read the message below then share with  those whom you believe can help.  If you wish to donate or make a pledge, you may  reach Fr. Borres, S.J.,  at (632)  426-6091  or via  email:  sjs@admu.edu.ph or visit  http://sanjoseseminary.org/

Dear Friends,

Since 1601, the San Jose Seminary  has formed hundreds of Filipino priests for the ministry of the diocese.

Run by the Society of Jesus, the San Jose Seminary gives its young formands a college education at the Ateneo de Manila University and intensive courses at the Jesuit-run Loyola School of Theology. The seminarians also receive spiritual formation and counseling, as well as training in different kinds of pastoral work. The San Jose Seminary also serves as a residential facility for your men undergoing formation for the priesthood.

Over the years, the San Jose alumni have been assigned to parishes and formation institutes across the country and around the world.  Their training is such that they are sought out as other formators in other Filipino seminaries.   Some are called to serve as  members of the Philippine Hierarchy.  At present, San Jose Seminary alumni include 7 bishops and 4 archbishops.

The San Jose Foundation is in need  of financial help at this time. Traditional fund sources have been drying up alarmingly. Thus, there is a need to look into new and sustainable way of financing the many aspects of the Seminary's valuable work.

We hope that you can contribute to this rare chance to help form priests who will help bring Jesus to many  souls.  Whatever assistance you extend will go a long way. Thank  you very much. May God bless you and your loved ones.

In opus ministerii,

(sgd.) REV. FR. SILVINO L. BORRES, S.J.

Hello Mr. Siquijor,
Thanks for visiting my blog and it's nice to meet fellow Josefino on this site. Thanks for your support for San Jose Seminary, our beloved alma mater. Hail San Jose!
